Note to the Hempstead Union Free School District on New York's Long Island: It's "The Great Gatsby," not "The Great Gypsy."
That's just one of about 30 mistakes on the school district's recommended list of summer reading books for students. Another, as The Associated Press reported: It's author Emily Bronte, not "Bonte."
State school officials seem to be taking the scores of criticisms from outraged readers in stride.
The New York State Department of Education's Board of Regents said the mistakes only show the need for a solid administration that can provide decent education, AP reported.
"Hempstead has not had a stable administration for a long time and the kids are suffering," the board said in a statement.
The superintendent for the school district didn't provide comment in the AP report.
