LETTER TO THE EDITOR: No wealth left to redistribute

- The Washington Times - Thursday, July 11, 2013

Will we continue to facilitate illegal entry and reward it with citizenship ("All eyes on border as House bill takes shape; Immigrant groups hold out for hope," Web, July 8)? What nation does that?

The party these groups are counting on for that gift is that same party that has been pushing us into a redistributionist-style society. Once when we were more self-reliant, new arrivals could be greeted as contributors to the workforce, new customers and as more potential defenders against external aggression. Now that we are trending toward the equal-shares-of-poverty characteristic of such societies, new arrivals (particularly the poor and undereducated) are more often seen as competitors for that diminishing pool of wealth.
