"Harry Potter" creator J.K. Rowling confirmed a report Sunday that she is the secret author behind the new crime novel "The Cuckoo's Calling" under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith.

"I hoped to keep this secret a little longer, because being Robert Galbraith has been such a liberating experience!" Miss Rowling said in a statement released to The Sunday Times of London, which first broke the story.

"It has been wonderful to publish without hype or expectation and pure pleasure to get feedback from publishers and readers under a different name."

Miss Rowling's publicist confirmed the paper's report was correct, helping the novel climb straight to the top of Amazon's best-seller list on Sunday, USA Today reported.

The book's sales on the online retailer soared more than 507,000 percent after she acknowledged being the author, CNN reported.
