George Zimmerman’s defense attorney Mark O'Mara took to CNN to explain why the family Mr. Zimmerman helped rescue last week canceled their scheduled press conference on Wednesday.

“In any way connecting yourself with George Zimmerman is right now very toxic, so though they wanted to thank him publicly, they could not for the possibility of blowback against them,” O'Mara said.

Mr. Zimmerman was one of two men who came to the Mark and Dana Gerstles’ aid and their two children, aged 4 and 8, trapped inside a blue Ford Explorer SUV that had rolled over after traveling off the highway in Sanford Thursday evening, less than a mile from where the shooting of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin occurred.

Host Wolf Blitzer mentioned growing speculation that the incident never happened.

“The same people who refuse to accept the jury’s verdict, just want to be angry, just want to hate George Zimmerman, are still going to,” Mr. O'Mara said. “Even if we had a videotape of the accident, they would still say it was made up. So you can’t really respond to people who just don’t want to listen to the truth.”
