Alec Baldwin angles to interview Edward Snowden: Let’s see ‘what he’s got’

- The Washington Times - Thursday, July 4, 2013

Hollywood actor Alec Baldwin said in an interview this week that he's pulling out all stops to win permission to fly to Russia and interview NSA leaker Edward Snowden.

"I'm pressing all the buttons I have in London with friends of mine who know [WikiLeaks founder Julian] Assange," Mr. Baldwin said, in an interview with Vanity Fair. "I'm going to fly to Russia and try to interview Snowden. ... I'm going to try."

Mr. Baldwin said he regarded Mr. Snowden with neutral eyes — neither as a fan or critic. But he wants to see what the fugitive who's requested asylum with more than 20 countries has to say, The Hill reported.

"I want it to play out," Mr. Baldwin said, in Vanity Fair. "It's like [Pentagon Papers leaker Daniel] Ellsberg, you know? Insofar as let's find out what he's got. Let's not assume automatically that he's an enemy of this country. If he is, well then we have laws that, unfortunately for him, he's [expletive]. They're going to get him. I'm sure someone is going to trade him."
