German Chancellor Angela Merkel to unemployed: Move
She made the remarks to BBC and spoke of Spain and Greece’s particularly tough job market, calling it a “huge crisis” that called for dramatic actions. Those seeking jobs should be willing to move to areas that offer jobs, she said, pointing to her own nation as an example.
“Many young people … only had jobs because they moved to the south,” she said, in the BBC report. Others should do similarly and embrace the concept of “mobility” to find work, she said.
It may be unfair, Ms. Merkel said. But that was reality.
“With regard to jobs and growth, the eurozone and other countries are in a difficult situation,” she said. “The issue is not austerity. The issue is to get back to growth.”
