BROOKLYN, MICH. (AP) - Martin Truex Jr. wasn’t around for the post-race news conference after finishing third Sunday in the Sprint Cup race at Michigan International Speedway.

There was apparently a miscommunication, so Truex spoke to reporters through a cellphone that was held up to a microphone.

He was in good spirits, though, after his second-best finish of the year. Truex was third behind winner Greg Biffle and Kevin Harvick.

“I feel like the last, really the last month or so, we’ve gotten behind just a little bit, and we’re trying to catch up,” Truex said. “So today was definitely a good day for us to get a good result, learn some things about our race car and hopefully make it better going forward.”

Truex moved from 17th to 13th in the points standings.
