LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Chemical weapons and U.S. response

- The Washington Times - Monday, June 17, 2013

The press release from the White House concerning the use of chemical weapons by Syrian President Bashar Assad and his military is a useless page of double-talk that answers nothing, and does not clarify any position held by President Obama that can be construed as emanating from a person of moral obligation to humankind. In recent days, his aversion to saying anything critical towards Mr. Assad is tantamount to cowardice.

The reports of waiting until next week to determine the U.S. involvement will seem a lifetime for many that may become victims of additional chemical warfare. History tells us that the human ability to commit mass murder can be repeated. Under Mr. Assad, tens of thousands have died, including children. What number of deaths is sufficient for a supposed superpower to pay attention?
