Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Sunday accepted the resignation of Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah, who took the office only three weeks ago.

The president had appointed Mr. Hamdallah as the head of an interim government, state-run WAFA news agency reported.

Mr. Abbas named Mr. Hamdallah, president of a West Bank university, as his new prime minister on June 2 and asked him to form a new Cabinet, CNN reported.

He offered his resignation on Thursday because of a “conflict over authority” within his Cabinet, government sources said, but withdrew it the next day, the BBC reported.
