Dump on Deen: Wal-Mart cuts ties with celebrity chef

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. announced Wednesday that it will be severing its ties with Paula Deen in the latest fallout after the TV chef gave a public apology for using racial slurs over 20 years ago.

The world's largest retailer said it will not place "any new orders beyond what's already committed," the Associated Press reported.

Wal-mart sold Deen's cookware lines, a line of eyeglasses, and assorted food products including the just launched finishing butters, Eater.com reported.

It was reported earlier today that Caesars will also be terminating its professional relationship with the embattled celebrity chef, closing her eateries in all four Caesars-owned casinos.

Miss Deen issued a videotaped apology Friday asking fans and critics to forgive her. The video was online for about an hour before the Food Network released a statement that it "will not renew Paula Deen's contract when it expires at the end of this month," the Associated Press reported.

Smithfield Foods, the world's largest park producer and processor, also announced it is terminating its professional relationship with the celebrity chef.
