A French-led United Nations council is demanding that Israel stop building on perceived Palestinian territories and immediately order Israeli settlers to leave those lands.
The Daily Star of Lebanon says that Christine Chanet called Israel’s construction activities tantamount to “rampant annexation” of Palestinian lands and that the nation must “immediately and without preconditions cease the settlement activity and to initiate a process of withdrawal from the settlements.”
Ms. Chanet was speaking on behalf of a U.N. council formed to investigate the settlements. She was presenting the conclusions of the report to the U.N. Human Rights Council in Geneva, The Daily Star reports.
Israel responded with anger, calling the report, which was published in January, “one-sided and biased,” The Daily Star reported. On Monday, Israel was still incensed: The nation boycotted Ms. Chanet’s presentation in Geneva.
