** FILE ** Ma’lik Richmond (left), 16, and co-defendant Trent Mays, 17, ... more >Two football players at a Connecticut high school were charged with sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl — just a few days after two Steubenville, Ohio, teenage boys were convicted in the rape of a fellow high school girl.
The Torrington (Conn.) High School football players, Edgar Gonzalez and Joan Toribio, are both 18 years old, The Associated Press reports. They’ve pleaded not guilty to second-degree sexual assault and other charges against an unnamed female teenage classmate, AP says.
Specifics of the sexual assault charges have been sealed by the court, AP reports.
But the girl faces a backlash for her accusations. Facebook posters have been taunting her and cursing her for what they say are accusations that are wrecking the football players’ futures, AP reports.
The allegations follow a high-profile rape case involving two Ohio teenage football players and a teenage girl. Ma’lik Richmond, 16, and Trent Mays, 17, were found guilty on Sunday in that August 2012 incident.
