Vatican’s communications site, Twitter feed hacked

VATICAN CITY (AP) - One of the Vatican’s main Twitter accounts and the website of its communications office have apparently been hacked.

The website of the Pontifical Council for Social Communications on Thursday was running a fabricated lead story with the headline “Holy Switcheroo: Batman has grown bitter, more vengeful with the years.”

The office’s Twitter handle (at)pccs_va sent a tweet with that headline and a link to the story.

Vatican officials didn’t immediately return phone calls or emails seeking comment on what protections they were taking to ensure the main papal Twitter handle (at)pontifex was protected. Pope Francis recently restarted the account that had gone dormant after Benedict XVI retired.

Earlier this week, the Twitter account of a senior Vatican official was also hacked.
