Onetime domestic terrorist Bill Ayers has been named a visiting scholar at the Minnesota State University at Moorhead.

“Dr. William Ayers… will be the 2013 College of Education and Human services Visiting Scholar,” the Feb. 25 announcement reads.

Mr. Ayers accepted the award and gave a speech at the campus last month titled “Teaching From the Heart: Education for Enlightenment and Freedom.”

The Weather Underground co-founder admitted in a 2001 book that he was involved in bombings of the New York City Police Department headquarters, the U.S. Capitol and the Pentagon in the early 1970s.

Mr. Ayers later became a professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago and a friend of President Obama’s.

Professor Steve Grineski helped select Mr. Ayers for the award and said administrators were not concerned with his radical past.

“I guess if they had been really concerned, they would have canceled his presentation and not allowed us to do it,” Mr. Grineski told Campus Reform on Wednesday.
