A Sterling woman was arrested this weekend on charges related to a shooting death of her husband, a police officer, the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office said.

Rosangela Spradling, 42, was arrested by Loudoun County after deputies found the body of 52-year-old Steven Spradling in their home in the 21700 block of Blossom Drive.

Cpl. Spradling has been a sworn member of the Metropolitan Washington Airport Authority Police Department, which protects Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and Washington Dulles International Airport, for more than 25 years.

Police said the shooting happened at about 9 p.m. Friday. Two children were in the home at the time of the shooting but were uninjured.

Ms. Spradling was charged with first-degree murder and was being held without bond. The children were staying with family and friends.

The airports authority issued a statement saying members were "deeply saddened" by the loss.
