British authorities on Friday sent fighter jets to escort a plane from Pakistan that's carrying nearly 300 passengers.

The Defense Ministry said the Pakistani International Airlines plane was from Lahore and was being diverted from Manchester, Reuters reported.

Fox News said the plane was carrying 297 passengers and that two men have now been arrested. It's not known what they were charged with, however.

Police say an incident occurred on board the plane, but did not release details, Reuters reported. The Huffington Post said the plane is being diverted to Stansted Airport, where the investigation will continue.

The Ministry of Defense said in a statement reported by the Huffington Post: "Typhoon aircraft from RAF Coningsby have been launched to investigate an incident involving a civilian aircraft within U.K. airspace."
