To Hamid, who ultimately has his eyes on earning a roster spot for next summer’s World Cup in Brazil, making the Gold Cup squad could be a springboard to that goal. And taking that step begins with impressing in camp this week.

“That’s on my mind heavy,” Hamid said. “[The Gold Cup] is a big tournament, there’s some good competition, and it’s for us youngsters that are looking to be a part of the national team for the future. So I want to be a part of that — definitely, 110 percent.”
