A three-car pileup occurred Thursday in Las Vegas at the same location where hundreds of people had gathered to remember a 14-year-old girl who was hit and killed by a truck the weekend before.

Police said a man was crossing Blue Diamond Road in a silver Toyota when he was struck by oncoming traffic. All three occupants of the Toyota were injured, with one of them listed in critical condition, KVVU-TV reported.

Many of the gatherers at the vigil burst into tears when the wreck unfolded, the station said.

A candlelight vigil was being held to remember Helen Liu, who died Nov. 9 when she and two other girls, both 13, were hit by a truck on Blue Diamond. They were not in the designated crosswalk, police said.

Liu’s parents also witnessed the wreck.

“I was really terrified, you know. Some people here say this is Helen’s way to warn again,” Mr. Liu said while holding back tears.
