Horse drawing Amish buggy killed in drive-by shooting

- The Washington Times - Tuesday, November 26, 2013

A horse pulling an Amish buggy was shot dead in a drive-by shooting Sunday night in Pennsylvania, police said.

The horse was drawing a buggy carrying a married couple and their children, ages 12, 9, and 7, when they heard "a loud noise, described as sounding like a firecracker," as an unknown car passed them, East Lampeter Township police said, The Smoking Gun first reported.

The family believed it was a firecracker until they arrived at their farm and noticed the horse was bleeding from its mouth. The horse had been shot in the chest and died before a veterinarian could help.

A veterinarian will attempt to extract the bullet from the horse for ballistics evidence. The suspect, if caught, could face weapons, reckless endangerment and/or hate-crime charges, The Smoking Gun reported.
