Obama calls Christie, congratulates governor on re-election

President Obama on Wednesday afternoon called newly re-elected New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie to congratulate him on his landslide victory.

"Obviously [the president] and the governor have spent a lot of time together ... The president was glad to congratulate him on his victory," White House press secretary Jay Carney said Wednesday, according to a pool reporter traveling with the president.

Mr. Obama visited New Jersey last year in the wake of Superstorm Sandy, which hit just days before the president bested Republican Mitt Romney in the 2012 presidential election.

The president's phone call to Mr. Christie came a day after Mr. Obama phoned numerous Democrats to offer congratulations after their victories in Tuesday's elections.
