A medical emergency might have been the cause of a multivehicle crash that injured eight people, including a 7-year-old boy, Howard County police said Sunday.

Police did not elaborate on the nature of the medical emergency, saying an investigation was ongoing.

The five-car collision occurred at about 11:49 a.m. Saturday on Route 175 eastbound at Route 108.

Seven people, ranging in age from 19-60 were injured in the crash and transported to hospitals, with one of the people listed in critical condition and the condition of the others described as serious.

The child was listed in critical but stable condition.
