Singer Chris Brown is expected to appear in a D.C. courtroom this afternoon to face charges he hit a man early Sunday outside an upscale hotel near the White House.
Police said Mr. Brown, 24, and Christopher Hollosy, 35, were involved in a fight with another man outside the W Hotel in the 500 block of 15th Street at about 4:30 a.m. Sunday.
A police report filed in the case says the victim told police he tried to get into a photo with Mr. Brown and two other people. It says Mr. Brown said, "I'm not down with that gay s---," "I feel like boxing."
The victim told police Mr. Brown hit him in the face with his fist and that Mr. Hollosy then stepped between them and also hit him in the face. The victim said Mr. Hollosy pulled Mr. Brown toward the singer's tour bus but that both men remained on the scene.
The report said the man suffered swelling and bruising to the area around his nose and was transported to a hospital.
Mr. Brown and Mr. Hollosy were arrested at the scene and charged with felony assault.
The singer earlier in the evening had appeared for an event in connection with the Howard University homecoming at the Park at Fourteenth.
Mr. Brown was sentenced to five years probation in 2009 after a high-profile incident in which he beat his girlfriend, singer Rihanna.
Reporters and television crews swarmed the area around the downtown courthouse Monday in anticipation of the afternoon hearing.
