Mexican man, 20, suspected of 79 murders

- The Washington Times - Monday, October 28, 2013

A 20-year-old Mexican man has admitted to killing 45 people and is suspected of killing 34 more, authorities said.

Juan Pablo Vazquez was detained for selling drugs earlier this month in the northern Mexican city of Monterrey, Reuters reported.

Mr. Vazquez told authorities he was part of an unidentified local organized crime group and is behind 45 killings. But Nuevo Leon state security spokesman Jorge Domene said at a news conference Thursday that Mr. Vazquez is actually "related to at least 79 murders, most of them committed in 2012."

Plagued by drug cartels, about 1,000 people a month die in Mexico in gangland killings, according to Reuters.
