The possibility of prison has prompted R&B singer Chris Brown to head to rehab after he was arrested in Washington, D.C., Sunday for simple assault.
The singer was arrested for giving a 20-year-old Maryland man a broken nose over the weekend. He spent 36 hours in a Washington jail and was taken to court Monday afternoon. He was given two days after his release to report to his California probation officer, CNN reported.
Mr. Brown, 24, is still on probation on a felony domestic violence charge for attacking his former girlfriend Rihanna on the eve of the Grammys in February 2009.
The Los Angeles judge overseeing his felony probation could order the troubled performer to complete as many as four years in prison for the Rihanna case if he is found in violation of probation, CNN reported.
CNN reports that there is no indication that Mr. Brown is entering rehab for drug abuse and that it's most likely he is being treated for anger management.
"Chris Brown has elected to enter a rehab facility," his representative said a statement Tuesday. "His goal is to gain focus and insight into his past and recent behavior, enabling him to continue the pursuit of his life and his career from a healthier vantage point."
The statement did not reveal where the singer is going for rehab, what he is being treating for, specifically, or how long he plans to stay.
