Brooks Brothers, the oldest men's clothier chain in the United States, is launching its very first steakhouse, Makers and Merchants, around the corner from its flagship store at 346 Madison Ave. in New York.

The fine-dining restaurant will occupy the three levels that Brooks Brothers took over from J. Press in 2008 and used for its new women's line, the New York Post reported.

A spokesman said Brooks Brothers, owned by Retail Brand Alliance, was looking at summer 2014 for a possible launch date. The company has not yet filed plans with the Buildings Department, nor has it filed a liquor application with the State Liquor Authority, the Post reported.

Founded in 1818, Brooks Brothers operates 300 stores worldwide.
