The Washington Nationals got back to baseball on Tuesday, with a doubleheader against the Atlanta Braves scheduled after Monday's game was postponed.

The mass shootings that took place close to Nationals Park on Monday were not far from their minds.

Admiral James A. Winnefeld, the vice chairman of the joint chiefs of staff, handed out Navy hats that the Nationals wore during batting practice at the start of Tuesday's afternoon game.

The second game will be played Tuesday night.

Nationals manager Davey Johnson thinks his sport has a responsibility to help everyone return to normalcy.

"I really believe that ... it keeps us sane," Johnson told reporters before the game.
