Firefighters are battling a five-alarm blaze at an Alexandria warehouse.

The fire broke out midday Monday at the building along Van Dorn Street. Thick, dark smoke from the fire can be seen for miles.

Chief Fire Marshal Robert Rodriguez with the Alexandria Fire Department said no injuries have been reported. He says it’s not clear what’s burning inside, but he says a sign on the outside of the building says it is a construction and recycling business.

The fire is about a block away from a water main break at the intersection of South Pickett and South Van Dorn streets. Rodriguez says the water main break is giving firefighters some trouble, but they are working around it.
