Parliament of perverts? Brits searched for adult material 300,000 times in one year

- The Washington Times - Wednesday, September 4, 2013

Nearly 300,000 attempts were made to access pornography from computers within the British Parliament over the past year, Sky News reported.

The figure, released by Palace of Westminster IT chiefs, covers devices linked to the parliamentary network, including those used by MPs, their staff and other employees.

Officials sought to downplay the report by blaming pop ups.

"We do not consider the data to provide an accurate representation of the number of purposeful requests made by network users due to the variety of ways in which websites can be designed to act, react and interact and due to the potential operation of third party software," a House of Commons spokeswoman said.

The Huffington Post points out that regardless of whether the numbers are accurate, they do reveal some interesting trends. For instance, 114,844 attempts were made in November 2012 and only 15 were made in February 2013.
