Five people were shot Thursday night in three separate incidents that occurred across Southeast D.C., according to police.
Three people, including two men and a woman, were shot when gunfire rang out in the 1300 block of Congress Street Southeast in Congress Heights around 11:36 p.m., according to the Metropolitan Police Department. An person unknown to the victims approached the group and opened fire, spokeswoman Saray Leon said.
A man and woman were both shot in the hip and taken to a hospital for treatment. The second man was only grazed by a bullet and treated by medics on the scene.
No description of the shooter or the circumstances of the crime were available from police.
Investigators also have little to go on in the other two shootings that took place Thursday night.
A man was shot in the ankle near 53rd Street and Central Avenue Southeast around 11:45 p.m. He reported hearing gunshots and then discovered he had been hit. It was not known whether the man was targeted, Ms. Leon said.
The man was taken to a hospital.
He described the suspect only as a slim man wearing all black and carrying a black backpack.
The fifth shooting occurred around 10 p.m. in Anacostia. A man heard several gunshots while in the 1400 block of Cedar Street Southeast and realized that a bullet had grazed his stomach. He was taken to a hospital.
