NEW YORK (AP) - Two police officers were hospitalized with minor injuries after responding to a fire in Brooklyn.

Officials say the officers had run into an apartment building in Williamsburg just before 1 p.m. Thursday to evacuate residents and suffered smoke inhalation.

The officers were rushed to a hospital after complaining of difficulty breathing. Both officers are expected to make a full recovery.

The injuries happened a day after Officer Dennis Guerra died after being overcome by carbon monoxide and smoke in an apartment building fire on Sunday. His partner, Officer Rosa Rodriguez, remains in critical condition.

Police have arrested a 16-year-old boy. They allege he started a mattress fire because he was bored.
