SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (AP) - The city of Schenectady plans to hold a parade for hometown Union College’s Division I men’s hockey champions.

Mayor Gary McCarthy says he’s working with college officials and local business leaders to line up a parade for Thursday in downtown Schenectady.

Union, with an enrollment of 2,200 students, defeated Minnesota 7-4 Saturday in Philadelphia to capture the tiny upstate school’s first NCAA national championship.

McCarthy joined students and other fans outside Union’s rink Sunday to welcome the champions home. Players exited the bus holding the championship trophy.

Schenectady police say they arrested five Union students among a crowd of several hundred after a celebration following Saturday night’s victory turned rowdy. Officials say at least one officer was struck by glass bottles tossed at police.
