Spokeswoman: Alexander not running in 5th District

- Associated Press - Monday, April 14, 2014

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - A spokeswoman for Rodney Alexander says the Republican former congressman doesn't intend to run for his old seat, despite a videotape showing GOP Rep. Vance McAllister in a marital indiscretion.

Alexander left the job last year to become Gov. Bobby Jindal's veterans affairs secretary.

Alexander's spokeswoman Robin Keller said Monday that Alexander is focused on his current job and "has no plans to alter that at this time or in the near future." She said he "has no interest" in seeking the 5th District seat in November's election.

Speculation has raged since a videotape released by a northeast Louisiana newspaper last week showed McAllister, a married father of five, kissing a congressional aide who is not his wife.

The congressman's office hasn't answered questions about whether McAllister will seek re-election.
