SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - The University of Utah has named Keith Diaz Moore from the University of Kansas as the new dean of its College of Architecture and Planning.

Moore replaces Brenda Case Scheer, who resigned last year.

The Salt Lake Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/1erxIZv ) Scheer plans to return to the college as a professor after a sabbatical.

At the University of Kansas, Moore started a new doctoral program in architecture and advocated for sustainable building efforts.

He has worked at the university since 2006, most recently as an associate dean of graduate studies and architecture professor.

Senior Vice President of U. Academic Affairs Ruth Watkins praised Moore in a statement, saying he is energetic and inclusive.

Pending approval from the U. Board of Trustees, Moore will start Aug. 1.
