MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) - Farmers markets are opening across South Carolina, but in some areas local produce has been delayed a bit because of this year’s cold, wet winter.

The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reports (https://bit.ly/1hP3ws4 ) that Myrtle’s Market, the first of a half dozen farmer’s markets in Horry County, opened on Wednesday but only two vendors were selling produce.

They were selling such things as beets, green onions, cabbage, strawberries and honey.

Blake Lanford with Waccamaw Market Cooperative, a nonprofit that coordinates and manages farmers markets, says some produce is a few weeks away because of the winter weather.

The state Agriculture Department website lists a variety of South Carolina-grown produce available at the State Farmers Market in West Columbia. Among the items are greens, green onions, parsley, spinach and turnips.
