FAIRBANKS, Alaska (AP) - The first reindeer calf of the spring has been born at a Fairbanks ranch.

The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports (http://is.gd/9pmgbs) the male calf was born 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, weighing in at 17 pounds. The calf has been named Bulleit, and his mother is Roxie.

The calf was born at Archipelago Farms in the Goldstream Valley. The farm is owned by George Aguiar, who has worked with the Reindeer Research Program at UAF for several years. He started his herd after bringing reindeer in from Canada.

He’s expecting six more calves to be born over the next few weeks.
