BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - The North Dakota Aeronautics Commission has named Kyle Wanner as the new state aeronautics director.

The commission voted unanimously to hire Wanner on Wednesday.

The Mandan native had been interim director of the agency after Larry Taborsky left the position in January. Taborsky had served as director since 2009.

Wanner is a pilot and has worked for the Aeronautics Commission for three years, doing airport inspections and working on aviation issues.

The Legislature established the Aeronautics Commission in 1947. The agency administers grants to state airports, compiles reports and statistics and works on behalf of rural air service and facilities. North Dakota has about 90 publicly owned airports.
