STERLING, Ill. (AP) - The publisher of Sauk Valley Media has resigned in order to start his own business.

The (Sterling) Daily Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/1fbc8ZW ) Trevis Mayfield announced his resignation Thursday. He’ll stop down from his post May 2.

The 48-year-old became Sauk Valley’s publisher in 2005 and a vice president at parent company Shaw Media in 2007.

Shaw is a family-owned media company that’s based in Dixon. The company owns about 100 print and digital publications in Illinois and Iowa, including The (Dixon) Telegraph and The Daily Gazette.

Mayfield says he has thought about starting his own business for years, but plans to take time off before his next venture.

No successor has been named.
