Louisiana Rep. Vance McAllister, who was caught on surveillance video released earlier this month kissing a married former staffer, will finish out his current term but will not seek re-election.

“I am committed to serving the 5th District to the best of my ability through this term, but I also have to take care of my family as we work together to repair and strengthen the relationship I damaged,” he the News-Star Monday.

Mr. McAllister and his wife, Kelly, were planning to return to D.C. Monday, the paper reported.

Top Republican officials in the state, including Gov. Bobby Jindal and Roger Villere, chairman of the state Republican party, had previously called on Mr. McAllister to resign after the news broke.

The Republican congressman won a special election in November to replace former GOP Rep. Rodney Alexander, who stepped down in August to become Louisiana’s Secretary of Veterans Affairs.
