COLUMBUS, Ga. (AP) - Western Georgia sheriff’s officials are investigating a stabbing inside the Muscogee County jail.

Maj. Randy Robertson tells the Ledger-Enquirer of Columbus (http://bit.ly/PorqP5 ) the injured inmate was attacked in his sleep by another inmate who disguised himself by wrapping cloth around his head.

Robertson says the inmate suffered injuries to his mouth, back and leg by a sharp object that was made inside the facility. Robertson says charges haven’t been filed and authorities haven’t identified a suspect.

Three Muscogee County jail inmates died between Oct. 24 and Nov. 9. One died of a brain aneurysm, another was beaten to death and the cause of the third inmate’s death is undetermined. The 46-year-old woman was found unresponsive and an autopsy found that she had bruised ribs, a punctured lung and facial wounds.
