UNIONTOWN, Pa. (AP) - A southwestern Pennsylvania woman who pleaded guilty to child endangerment in the death of her toddler son has been sentenced to 2½ to five years in prison.

A Fayette County judge on Wednesday sentenced 30-year-old Heather Forsythe in the 2011 death of 4-year-old Trenton St. Clair.

Prosecutors said her testimony was crucial in last month’s trial of 29-year-old Patrick Haney Jr., who was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to death.

Forsythe testified that bruising on her son increased the last week of his life. She said she came home to find her boyfriend beating the child, and he prevented her from seeking medical care for the child.

Forsythe declined comment. Her sister, Louella, said she will be serving “a life sentence” because of the loss of the child.
