KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - A broken water main in downtown Knoxville has created a huge hole at the intersection of Main and State streets.

The Knoxville News Sentinel reports (http://bit.ly/1mD47fB) the break in the 18-inch main was first reported shortly before midnight Wednesday.

Knoxville Utilities Board crews were working through the night to repair the damage. The cause of the break is not yet known.

Closed parts of downtown include the Main Street entrance ramp to James White Parkway, State Street between West Hill Avenue and Cumberland Avenue, and Main Street between South Gay Street and South Central Street.

Flaggers were helping assist commuters, who were being warned to expect delays.

Utilities Board officials also said customers inside the Interstate 640-Interstate 40 loop could experience lower-than-normal water pressure.
