MARINE CORPS AIR STATION NEW RIVER, N.C. (AP) - A new commander will lead Marine Corps Air Station New River.

A change-of-command ceremony is scheduled for Friday at the hangar of Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 365. Lt. Col. Christian D. Harshberger will pass the colors to Lt. Col. John W. Spaid, signifying the transfer of responsibilities and accountability from one commanding officer to another.

Harshberger has served as commanding officer for the VMM-365 Blue Knights since April 30, 2012. During his tenure, he was in command of more than 235 Marines and sailors, providing leadership while Blue Knights deployed in support of the war in Afghanistan and other assignments.

Spaid was previously the operations officer for Marine Aircraft Group 26.
