EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (AP) - A federal judge has sentenced a former Scott Air Force Base contracting official to three years of probation for accepting gratuities.

The Belleville News-Democrat reports (http://bit.ly/QT4OY1) 66-year-old Dennis Charles Toenjes Sr. must serve the first six months of his sentence on home confinement. Toenjes is a former U.S. Air Force contracting official at the southern Illinois base. Federal prosecutors say he also must pay a $500 fine and a $100 special assessment.

Officials say Toenjes accepted nearly $9,400 from the owner of a South Roxana asbestos abatement company that worked at Scott Air Force Base. The owner of the business is serving an 18-month prison sentence for tax fraud and paying gratuities to a government official.
