COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Former Democratic congressman Barney Frank of Massachusetts is visiting the University of South Carolina and speaking on politics and the nation’s financial institutions.
Frank is speaking Monday to students, faculty and the public at 4 p.m. in the Business Administration Building. Members of the public are also invited and it is free of charge.
Frank was co-author of the Dodd-Frank bill, which established a new regulatory structure for banks and financial institutions in the wake of the nation’s 2008 financial turmoil.
On Tuesday, Frank meets with students in a course titled Politics and the Mass Media.
Frank was elected to Congress in 1980. He served on the Committee on Financial Services, also known as the Banking Committee, and was its chairman from 2007 to 2011.
