LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) - The Eastern Shoshone Tribe’s General Council has dismissed two elected tribal officials.

Wyoming Public Radio reports (http://bit.ly/1itpHQU ) that the general council on Saturday voted to remove Wes Martel and Ivan Posey from the Eastern Shoshone Tribe’s Business Council. The general council also voted to remove Kimberly Varilek as Eastern Shoshone attorney general.

The general council is a quorum of enrolled tribal members and has the last word on tribal matters.

Business Council Chairman, Darwin St. Clair, Jr., says the dismissals have stifled tribal government.

Tribal law states the business council must have a quorum of four people to vote. With one seat empty already empty because of the death of a sitting councilman and the two dismissals on Saturday, St. Clair says the three remaining members can’t act on anything.
