ZEELAND, Mich. (AP) - Michigan police have arrested a 14-year-old in connection to the stabbing of another teen near Grand Rapids.

The Grand Rapids Press reports (http://bit.ly/1lQxTfr ) the teenager’s attorney said Monday that his client acted in self-defense. Seventeen-year-old Anthony Schild was stabbed once in the chest on Aug. 1 in Zeeland.

Police say Schild was taken to an area hospital in critical condition. His condition wasn’t available Monday.

The suspect is being held on $15,000 bond in the Ottawa County Juvenile Detention Center following his arrest on Aug. 3. Authorities haven’t released his name.

His attorney says his client defended himself from two other young men who were assaulting him. The attorney says one of the alleged attackers had a knife.
