GALVESTON, Texas (AP) - An injured crew member from a bulk freighter in the Gulf of Mexico is recovering in a southeast Texas hospital after being taken off his ship by a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter.

The 33-year-old crew member, whose name was not immediately released, is in stable condition at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston.

He injured his right arm Friday after falling while working on the 630-foot bulk freighter, which was 172 miles offshore of Lake Charles, Louisiana.

The Coast Guard dispatched a helicopter, which took the crew member to the Galveston Airport, where an ambulance then took him to the hospital.
