EUGENE, Ore. (AP) - Eugene authorities say a fire that caused minor damage at a middle school was intentionally set.

The fire Thursday night at Kennedy Middle School caused an estimated $2,500 in damage. The Eugene School District is offering a $500 reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction.

Eugene Springfield Deputy Fire Marshall Mark Dahl tells the Register-Guard (http://bit.ly/1rFFUac ) that the fire began in a grassy area between the sidewalk and an outbuilding. It charred a corner of the structure, which is used for an alternative education program.

Dahl says the fire started on a wooden pallet and flattened cardboard boxes, and an accelerant probably was used.
