MUSKEGON, Mich. (AP) - A stand-up paddle-boarder has cut short his attempt to cross Lake Michigan.

Jesse Hieb says bad weather, including “9- to 10-foot waves,” is the reason he turned back.

The 28-year-old adventurer tells The Muskegon Chronicle (http://bit.ly/1vUz5rG ) he and a four-member crew following in a boat called it quits late Wednesday night.

Hieb says he had been paddling for 17 hours and had covered more than half of the 80-mile route between Milwaukee and Muskegon.

He’s not ruling out trying it again.

Hieb says he’s not overly disappointed, considering he “knew this was something that was near impossible to do.”
