COLUMBUS, Miss. (AP) - Construction crews could begin working by October on a $4.5 million program of road, sidewalk and drainage upgrades in Columbus.

The City Council approved a $5 million bond issue in June to finance the work, which included $500,000 in engineering, project managing and legal fees.

The Commercial Dispatch reports (http://bit.ly/Vc9NEV) a property tax increase will take effect in October to finance the bond over 15 years.
